Some Vintage 1959 HHS Football makes the Times

Here is a photo of some of our linemen from the 1959 Hornet team (upper left). Many of us played offense and defense, stayed in for the whole game. We formed up in a single wing and ran lots of running plays. Notice the two Chianeses, who faced off each other in a few games.

1958 McGalliard School PTA Fashion Show Plus Musical

Perhaps wildest of all these PTA fund raisers was this 1958 Fashion show at McGalliard School, with mothers as models , then a Musical Interlude, the a One-Act Comedy, "Sisters Under the Skin," presumably about fashion.

1960 Ham Twp Scholarship via Children's Theater: "Wizard of Oz"

 

 

 

This was a Lee Yopp and Richard Van Gorder production starring our teachers and a few classmates. Can you imagine this happening today, with teachers taking on the roles? The photos are very revealing--can you name those teachers? (At the same time, Yopp was putting on our regular plays.)  All for us--scholarships were what they were after, for us.

This production brought together Lee Yopp and Art Frank in an original musical, again with faculty and staff performers, to raise money for scholarships for us--amazing! The description mentions the success of the previous year's original production of "Let Your Hair Down" as an impetus for this new musical. Yopp and Frank are described as our own Rogers and Hammerstein.

Here's another Hamilton Township PTA Scholarship event-- a Spring Dance--with something of an Asian theme. I post the long lists of "Patrons" who gave money--again, to send a few of us off to college--in order to show the wide support of our public schools in those days. (Click on images to enlarge.)

Some Ol' 1960 HHS Grads Still Meet for Breakfast

What's more reassuring than seeing our classmates still engaging in heady discussions around the breakfast table? In these photos from Eleanor, we see the long term benefits of a solid high school education during our era, 1950's -- America's "golden age" of education.

Here are an updated itineray and photos from Eleanor of our Senior Trip to D.C., March 16-18, 1960. It snowed and we have that old 8mm film converted to video of our travels, which we may be able to adapt for viewing on this site. We were taken to so many places. I can name everyone in the pix (except the girl in distress), can you?
